Acid Attack Survivors and Their Plight for Reforms

Introduction In a world where the paradigm of crime has shifted heavily toward women, different ways and types of crimes have been reported. With time, women became more and more vulnerable as the heinousness of crime increased from sexual offence to voyeurism to rape, including acid attacks. Acid attack is one of the most heinous forms of crime where to satisfy the ego and to take revenge on the women, any form of acid is thrown, which leads to permanent disfigurement, especially of the face and sometimes leads women to a permanent vegetative state. [1] Old Criminal Law Vs New Criminal Law Before furthering the topic, it is essential to see how the law looks into the offence of acid attack. Earlier in India Penal Code 1860, after the revered judgement of Laxmi v Union of India, the Court gave several guidelines regarding acid attack survivors. This judgement led to the inclusion of Section 326A [2] And 326B in IPC, which gave the imprisonment of 10 years for causing deformity by thro

NIRMALA: an emotional journey

Recently I read the mesmerizing Hindi version of novel called "Nirmala" of famous author  Munsi Premchand. I got the reference of this beautiful book from Instagram. I ordered this book and found that it has just 250 pages! It was very thin. It's low number of pages kept me thinking about my decision to buy it. Anyways I started reading it and here I am telling my first review. I will keep it very short yet effective. NIRMALA Nirmala was written by Munsi Premchand in 1926. This book being a satirical and melodramatic, brings in front of us, a horrific conclusion of wrong decisions, jealousy, dubiousness in a relation etc.  It starts with a girl namely "Nirmala", she is eldest of her 4 siblings. Her father was a lawyer and mother- a housewife. At the age of 15, her parents started finding her a groom and they found one. Nirmala used to be very excited and enthusiastic girl. When she came to about her parent's decision, she became very thoughtful and serious.

MARITAL RAPE: A TABOO AND A LEGAL FAILURE

Introduction Our country is considered to be an ancient civilization where rights and duties are considered as basic fundamental features of the life of its citizens. In 1860, Lord Macauley drafted the greatest penal provision extending to the whole of the country. Several offences were penalized and adequate punishment was given to offenders. In 1950, we got our pious constitution where the Right to Life was considered a fundamental right and through its varied and thought-provoking interpretations, we amended ourselves and the lives of citizens became more achieving and we again are on the pedestal of being one of the great civilizations. In our country, matrimony is regarded as a sacrament rather than a contract. Although Muslim marriages are in the form of contracts, still it is considered very pious and much like a sacrament if not exactly. From our ancient text, we get a fair idea of how two persons are considered as one but there is no penal provision either in ancient or mod

Model United Nations and its learning

Recently I completed my first MUN competition organised by Gujarat national law University, Gandhinagar. When I heard about a MUN, it was the first day of my university and I was thinking that what is this demon which was hidden from me, of course, I was into my studies in such a manner that I forget my extracurriculars. In the second semester of my university, I got an opportunity to participate in one and it was great learning. I got United Nations Security Council and trust me it is the best part of UNGA. I got a chance to represent Switzerland, a neutral country recognised as one of the happiest countries in the world. Switzerland is one of the non-permanent members of the UNSC and it is there with various mind-boggling ideas which can really help the world in taking a u-turn from chaos and moving towards stability. Although I didn't have much content to present so I went through the country's foreign policy and tried to inculcate the personality of a delegate of a proud c

CLAT JOURNEY

I started thinking about the law when I was in class 11th but didn't know about clat paper. When I developed an interest in the CLAT, I thoroughly searched about this paper. After buying a subscription of an online preparation app, I started my tedious yet wonderful journey.  The CLAT journey starts with making a paper strategy and ends with taking model sample paper and my case was not different so I gave approximately 200 papers. Oh! I think it appears too many but holds on, I didn't analyse the given papers. The most important thing is to analyse the sample papers you have given and find new mistakes in your paper and again recheck it. CLAT preparation is very monotonous and boring but current affairs is the section which gives a thrill. Current Affair is the first love affair which demands a lot of time and I gave it the same.                                 The sections starting from legal reasoning, current affairs, quantitative analysis, English and Logical Reasoning ar
